The Conestoga High School girls’ lacrosse team clinched its first Central League title in nine years with an 18-6 win against Springfield May 7. It was the Pioneers’ 17th win in a row. Conestoga heads into the District 1 playoffs as the No. 1 seed and is ranked No. 9 in the United States.
In the victory, University of Cincinnati commit junior Monica Borzillo had four goals and a season-high five assists while sophomore Loyola (Md.) commit Liz Scott had three goals and one assist. Senior co-captain and Drexel commit Maggie Stetson had three goals while Lehigh commit junior Sondra Dickey and North Carolina commit sophomore Scottie Rose Growney both had two goals and an assist.
The defense was led by Cornell-bound senior co-captain Sarah Nicholson with junior Maggie Hansche, seniors Sammy Stephans and Franklin & Marshall-bound Sarah Brooke. Righthanded goalie Jules Horning (committed to play at Marquette) and lefthanded goalie Laney Stenson (committed to play at Delaware) continued to make key saves, as they have all season, splitting time in the cage.
