NEW YORK – After making a splash in her first collegiate game, University of Cincinnati lacrosse freshman Monica Borzillo (Devon, Pa./Conestoga) has been named the BIG EAST Freshman of the Week as announced by the league on Tuesday afternoon.
Borzillo led the Bearcats with three goals, three assists and two caused turnovers in the season-opener at NR/RV Ohio State on Sunday afternoon. She is the first UC freshman to record a hat trick in her debut since the 2013 season and has already etched her name in the program single-game record book, ranking seventh with nine shots and 10th with three assists vs. the Buckeyes.
Additionally, with one game played, she ranks ninth in the NCAA with 3.00 assists per game and ninth with 6.00 points per game.
Borzillo and the Bearcats hit the road this weekend for a pair of games against Coastal Carolina and Campbell on Feb. 24 and 26. Cincinnati will play the Chanticleers at 2 p.m. on Friday before traveling to face the Camels at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
